Watercolor Painting

Watercolor painting for me started out as something to fill a void in my life during a time of loss and change. It didn't take long before I was hooked! Right from the start I was drawn to painting birds, as I already loved to watch, photograph and identify them in my own backyard. I've since become enamored with painting people, but the motivation is the same: to express my appreciation for God's creation.

I love letting the water and pigment have its way to make the subject come alive on the paper! I often begin with loose and expressive brushwork before working towards select details with more precision until I am satisfied that I've captured the essence of the subject, be it the the posture of a bird or the expression on a person's face. I find watercolor painting challenging, relaxing and exciting all at the same time. I enjoy experimenting with techniques and colors as I continue learning and growing as an artist.
