Michael considers himself a representational luminous painter of landscapes and seascapes. He usually starts with the grisaille method of painting with a monotone painting over a white or bright yellow canvas. He then starts adding layers upon layers of colored glazes to give his work a glowing effect. His subject matter comes from his travels all over the world, but mainly from his hometown of St. Louis Missouri. Michael feels “Forest Park and Shaw’s Botanical Gardens offer unlimited sources for subject matter.”
He also has developed a series of “Little World” fantasy paintings where the imagery comes more from his imagination. These depict nature with birds, turtles, toadstools & even fish, against a mysterious fairy tale like setting of forest brooks and waterfalls. His “Forest Never Sleeps” series depicts small creature life in the forest with a night sky and full moon backdrop.
Michael Frank has won numerous awards for his art and is a Juried member of the Greater St. Louis Artist Association. Many of his paintings can be seen at several galleries in the St. Louis area. You can see more of Michael’s art on his website: www.Michael-Frank.artistwebsites.com
